Western Pleasure futurities along with several Trail classes saw the biggest portion of the show schedule at the APHA Open and Amateur World Championship Show on Sunday.
‘Undoubtedly’ The Winner
Jody Brewer admitted that he was nervous showing the three year old gelding Undoubtedly in the Breeders Trust Three and Four Year Old Western Pleasure Stakes. However, the duo quickly settled in to the class and proved to have the winning go. They earned $3,840 for the win.
“We bred and raised ‘Benjamin.’ Spike showed his grandma, and she was the number one APHA Youth Horse, and his mother (Shes Inviting) won the world too,’” Jody said. Benjamin is by the AQHA stallion No Doubt Im Lazy. “He really wasn’t ready last year as a two year old, and we weren’t really sure things were going to come together this year, but they did.”
Benjamin got hurt in the spring and needed stall rest before he could begin preparing for the fall shows. “About a month before the NSBA World Show, we realized that Jay Starnes was coming to the APHA World Show with another horse, so we asked him if he could prepare Benjamin, and he said yes.”
Jay took the gelding with him to the NSBA World Show in Tulsa last month to ride around, and ended up showing him there. “We weren’t at the NSBA World, but Jay and Kristy called us to say they were going to show him there in Color Green Western Pleasure. That was the first time he was ever shown. Jay showed him here in the Green Western Pleasure and was third on him the second time he’s ever shown.
“He’s just so good minded, and he’s very talented, but Jay had a huge part in having him ready to show here. Since he had got hurt, we felt really behind in getting him ready.”
Jody plans to keep the gelding and show him in more Non-Pro events in 2020.
A 'Sensational' Class
Cody Caliendo showed a mare that his family raised to win the Non-Pro Two Year Old Western Pleasure Sweepstakes. He showed A Sensational Paint to win the class, earning $720.00.
“She did everything I asked her to do for the most part,” Cody said. “You never know with two year olds, but that’s what I love about showing them. I think the best thing about her is her lope.”
By A Scenic Impulse and out of Sensational Zippo, the mare is known as Lucy. “Sara Simons and RJ King have been showing her, and I got to show her at the NSBA World Show last month before coming here,” Cody said.
Sunday also saw the Bridleless Western Pleasure Sweepstakes. Jenna Hyde showed Gotta Lota Good to the win.

A Trail of Championships
Erin Bradshaw Weiss piloted her stallion John Simon to the win in Amateur Trail in the first class of the day on Sunday. She found the course challenging. “It was a pretty tight course and you had to be right on your transitions, because they came up fast. It was a difficult pattern,” Erin said.
Erin clearly enjoys getting to show the 13 year old stallion even though he has a successful breeding career as well. “We really didn’t buy John to be a breeding stallion in the beginning,” she said.
“I had just lost my previous show horse, and I was looking for a horse to show. He loves his job, and he’s happiest when he’s showing. He’s having a great World Show.”

Leading The Way to In Hand Trail Title
Crystal McBride led Im What Ur LookinAt over the obstacles to win the Gold Yearling In Hand Trail Breeders Futurity, earning a check for $2,534.00 for the win.
“I’ve probably been doing In Hand Trail for about four or five years now,” Crystal said. “It’s so good for the babies, and it’s fun and challenging. I really enjoy it.
“The course for the futurity was pretty challenging,” Crystal said. “The serpentine and extended trot were two of the most challenging parts of the pattern. We practice on serpentines a lot at home.” Their practice paid off. The duo were reserve champions in Amateur Yearling In Hand Trail and fifth in the Open Yearling In Hand Trail.
