NSBA Foundation Receives Funding for Second Class of Tomorrows Horsemen
The National Snaffle Bit Association Foundation is pleased to announce that a second class of Tomorrows Horsemen has been fully funded and will begin in 2022, thanks to the generous donations of the Mary F. Atkinson Foundation Trust of Lufkin, Texas, and the Carl and Caroline Swanson Foundation of Omaha, Nebraska.
Operating as a special project of the NSBA Foundation, Tomorrows Horsemen is a two-year professional development program that assists young equestrian professionals in various aspects of their business to help them more successfully develop a viable and thriving business in the horse industry.
MariJo Meredith is a trustee of the Mary F. Atkinson Foundation Trust. The Atkinson Foundation Trust is a returning sponsor of Tomorrow Horsemen, which funded the first two-year class. “When we first talked about this program three years ago, I was so pleased that there were like-minded people interested in helping the future professional trainers of our industry. It is my hope that we will help the next generation of trainers become more resilient, smarter and more sustainable,” she noted.
“We had a great group of trainers in the first class, and I know in talking to others throughout the industry that there are a lot of young trainers who would like to take advantage of the program. I believe through the tools that Tomorrows Horsemen provides, we are going to make a difference in this industry.”
Lori Bucholz, who with her husband, Rick, is a trustee of the Carl and Caroline Swanson Foundation, agreed. “Having good, responsible professionals in our business is very important,” she said.
“Tomorrows Horsemen helps young professionals learn about many important business aspects of their operation, from growing their brand, to handling the bookkeeping, and issues like insurance and loans, to relating to their clients, to help their businesses become successful and sustainable. The class size also allows each participant to get individual attention, but it also requires that they put in the work. It’s a great program that we’re happy to support.”

Unlike any other program offered for professional horsemen, this program helps emerging industry professionals strengthen their business practices, communication and leadership skills through in-person workshops, interaction with business and industry experts and Zoom meetings. The goal of Tomorrows Horsemen is to protect the future of the equine industry by teaching practical business applications that will result in long-term financial stability for equine professionals, their families, and their businesses.
The NSBA Foundation will announce information about the 2022 Tomorrows Horsemen class, including the schedule and application process, in the near future.
