Friday saw several classes pin futurity, stakes and youth champions as the Congress rolls into “Youth Weekend.”
Sara Simons Takes ‘Orphan Andy’ To Level 3 Junior Trail Win
Sara Simons showed five year old gelding Made Me Famous to win the Level 3 Junior Trail on Friday for owner Cathy Ryden.
“I actually found him at Daren Putnam’s when he was a baby,’ Sara said. “I saw him laying down in the field and saw a big white spot on him and I thought he would be a nice Paint horse. He was an orphan, but when he got up, he was so much bigger than the other babies, which is typically something I look for, for myself and our other customers.
We bought him for Jared Reece, and then Megan and her mom Cathy bought him at the end of his two year old year. He had a pretty good career and won quite a bit of stuff at the NSBA World Show. Last year he started doing Trail for me and did well last year and again this year. I’m really proud of him. He’s super talented. He’s a large horse and he has a lot of presence out there. He’s kind, and likes his job.”
Andy also has a Non-Pro component to his career. “Megan has been showing him in Western Pleasure, and will start the Trail next year,” Sara said.
‘Unexpected Win In Maturity Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle
“This was most unexpected. We’ve always placed in this class, except last year when we had a off year,” Madison Reynolds said of her win in the Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Stakes aboard her 12 year old gelding, Pretty Darn Haute.
“I’ve had Foreman almost seven years. I got him my second year of 14-18. He’s a special boy and he’s done a lot for me. Showing in our finals today, I just let him do his thing, and he took care of me. I couldn’t be more proud of him.
“One of the judges told me when we placed first and lined up on them that they saw how happy we were together, and that we were just enjoying ourselves, and honestly that was my goal for this year.”
Madison also credited some look from Corrine Casteel. “She let me borrow her jacket, and I think it had some luck in it,” she said.
It was Madison’s first futurity/stakes win at the Congress. “We won the NYATT Hunter Under Saddle a few years ago, but we’ve never won anything like this before,” she said.
Many Congress attendees may be familiar with Madison’s mother, Christy Reynolds, whose Revivify Hydration provides various intravenous fluid services at the Congress. Christy declared that she would not be doing any IV services for the rest of the day.
