Certificate of Registration

What is a Certificate of Registration?

Formerly referred to as a Certificate of Eligibility, the certificate is the NSBA registration and  is a requirement for horses being shown in any NSBA class. If your horse is already enrolled in NSBA's Breeders Championship Futurity, Color Breeders Championship Futurity, or Stallion Incentive Fund License Program, you already have a Certificate of Registration. If your horse is not already enrolled, you can receive the required certificate by registering with NSBA.

Where do I need to show my Certificate?

Beginning in 2022, all horses showing in any NSBA class are required to be registered in the current owners name in order to compete. Show management will ask to see a copy of your certification at the time of entry, along with a current membership card for the owner and exhibitor of the horse.

How do I get a Certificate for my horse?

If your horse does not have a certificate, a copy of the horse's breed registration papers must accompany the application. A "Pending" registration is allowed if you have not received your breed registration papers. The cost to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility is $45 (fee listed is for cash and check paying customers). Horses not registered with one of NSBA's eight alliance breed partners, can register with a microchip.

What if I lose my Certificate or need to Transfer ownership?

You can obtain a duplicate Certificate from the NSBA office. To Transfer the certificate to a new owner, or obtain a duplicate copy, the fee is $45.

Do I need to renew my horse's Certificate each year?

No. Once your horse is registered with NSBA or nominated to the Breeders Championships Futurity, Color Breeders Championship Futurity, or Stallion Incentive Fund Program, there is not an annual payment due for your horse. In the event of a transfer of ownership, the new owner will need to submit a transfer.
