NSBA is saddened to report the passing of AQHA stallion Allocate Your Assets. By Protect Your Assets and out of the thoroughbred mare Kat Sass, Allocate Your Assets was owned by Kathrine and Jerry Tobin, of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Kathy and Jerry had no intention of becoming stallion owners, but fate intervened. “Deanna and Susie (Johns, Kathy’s sister) were at the Redbud, and they saw Brian Isbell Garcia riding Allocate Your Assets around,” Kathy explained.
“Deanna begged Brian for the chance to ride him around, and he finally relented and let her ride him, and she just loved him and wanted to buy him. Brian really didn’t want to sell him, but he finally agreed on the condition that he could keep showing him.”
Brian showed Allocate Your Assets throughout the summer and fall. “Brian showed him at the Quarter Horse Congress and NSBA had the BCF Gold and Silver Hunter Under Saddle futurities, and he won those classes and the Congress two year old futurity class,” Kathy said.
Once the team got ‘Al’ home to Arizona, he got some time off, and showed at the Scottsdale Fall Championship Show during his three year old year. “When he was four years old, I got to show him in Select, and later Sue Ellen Vickery (Kaven) rode him to a reserve world championship at the AQHA World Show in Senior Hunter Under Saddle.
“After that, we started standing him at June Warren and Ron Horn’s place since they had such a great set up with The Last Detail and Last Captive. He stayed under their care until June became sick, and we decided to move him to Arizona so she wouldn’t have to work so hard. He had been in Arizona ever since.”
Kathy is proud of her stallion’s accomplishments. “His babies got to be so good, and it has been so exciting to watch them do well. He was one of the first English stallions to reach the million dollar mark in offspring earnings,” she said. “That was at a time when there weren’t that many big dollar futurities for Hunter Under Saddle horses, so it was a big deal.”
Allocate Your Assets has produced 557 foals who have earned $1.4 million in total earnings 20,730 AQHA points, more than 80 AQHA Superior awards, 347 AQHA Register of Merit awards and 50 AQHA world and reserve world championships.
His notable offspring include NSBA Horse of the Year Couture Blue Genes, who has more than $65,000 in lifetime earnings and earned AQHA and Congress world championships; Pretty Assets, whose lifetime earnings total more than $61,000 and include AQHA and NSBA world championships as well as multiple Congress wins; Blameitonthe Alcohol, a multiple AQHA world champion and Congress champion; Al Fool Ya, multiple Congress and AQHA world champion; Lyles Al Lie, multiple AQHA world champion and NSBA world champion; Al E Hondro, multiple AQHYA world champion and reserve world champion; Al Wayz On Your Mind, AQHA and multiple Congress champion; and She Says Aloha, AQHYA and NSBA world champion and Congress champion, among many others.
In a joint statement, Kathy and Jerry along with Jim and Deanna Searles noted: “‘Al’ was referred to as the king of the barn but his sweet eye and kind demeanor made you forget sometimes that he was indeed a stallion. Al was a pleasure to train, show and be around. He stamped his babies with this same loving personality and unmatched show presence. Al not only changed our lives but we feel that he has made a lasting impact on the industry. He will truly be missed! Thank you to all who loved him, supported him, cheered him, rode him and bred to him. Al was a blessing to us all.”
NSBA shares its condolences with the Tobin and Searles families.
