Five Western Pleasure and two Hunter Under Saddle futurity classes saw 2020 champions named on Friday at The Madness AQHA and NSBA circuit, culminating in the crowning of the Equine Chronicle NSBA Three Year Old and Older Maiden Horse Western Pleasure class..
Hunting Champions
Two horses tied to win the $1,000 Added NSBA Three Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle, but the tiebreaker saw Hez Really Exotic and Jamie English, showing for Kelly Smith, take home the champion trophy, while Al My Assets, shown by Beth Case for Michelle and Sheila Bauer, took the reserve award. The two teams each earned $510.
“He’s just so willing, and very sweet, and he gets better every time we show,” Jamie said of the gelding known as Blake. “I’ve only had him about four months. He fits me really well. Blake is by Good I Will Be and out of Shes Really Exotic.

Beth Case has been around the gelding Al My Assets since he was as weanling. “I just really like him,” she said. “He’s starting to really mature physically the more we go this year. He won the Two Year Old Hunter Under Saddle at the Congress last year, and he won the Big A futurity a few weeks ago. He’s getting stronger all the time.”
Its A Northern Thing and Beckey Schooler, showing for Sarah Merkatoris, earned third and $255.
Tali Terlizzi piloted her mare, Borne This Way, to win the $1,000 Added Two Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle. The duo earned $699 for the win. “I’ve only had her about two weeks,” Tali said.
“I’ve really only got to ride her three or four times. She was great and rode perfect for me. She’s super quiet and willing, and she can lope her butt off. Jamie English showed her at the Big A and was reserve in the Open Two Year Old class.” Known as “Teeny,” the mare is by The Born Legacy and out of a Blazing Hot mare.
Fun To Be Best and Michelle Bauer took reserve honors and $466.
Getting Western
Highlight the day’s Western futurity classes was the Equine Chronicle Three Year Old and Older Maiden Horse Western Pleasure, which crowned Open, Intermediate and Limited rider champions.
Aaron Moses rode Made Ya Look to the Open division win and the $15,000 paycheck for owners Brent and Kate Bamford. “Buttons” is a full sibling to Yall Hash Tag This, by Machine Made and out of KM Hot Number. “You can say I really like this cross,” laughed Aaron Moses.
“We were going to show her a little earlier in the year, but we felt she wasn’t quite ready, so we saved her for this maiden class. We’re glad we did,” Aaron said. “She has a great profile and presence about her, goes really correct and is very balanced. We’ll probably show her in the Novice Horse, Three Year Old and Green classes the rest of this year.”

In the Intermediate division of the Three Year Old and Older Maiden class, Brian Cox showed TheExclusiveMartini for owner Jeffrey Carpenter, earning the $1,000 Intermediate check as well as tying for fifth in the Open division and earning $2,750. “It’s kind of a special win for us,” Brian said. “I showed her dad, The Best Martini, and won this class, and now this one.
“She’s a home-grown horse, so that makes it special too. We had this class in mind for her, so we saved her for it. She went really well for the first time being shown.”

Zach Favorite showed Made Ta Order to win the Limited division of the class, earning the $1,000 pay check, and also placed ninth in the Open division. “I started working with her in December, and Gil and Becky Galyean were a lot of help with her,” Zac said.
“She’s real fluid, and just has so much balance at all her gaits both direction. I’d say she’s very true, and has a lot of expression. She’s not a horse you have to ride very much, because she’s pretty intelligent. You show her something and the next time you ride her, it’s there. It’s very rewarding.”

8 – KJ American Made, Bruce Walquist for Mark and Natasha Webster, $1,500
9- Made Ta Order, Zach Favorite for Doreen Earl
10 – Respect The Hustle, Robert Fowler for Michael Schoeff, reserve Limited, $500

Two other Open futurity classes saw champions named. In the Three Year Old Limited Open Horse Western Pleasure, Tessa Lynch Sutton showed So Dang Hot for Amy Lynch to the win and $823.20 in a large and deep class of 13 entries.
Tessa showed the mare known as “Eighty” under the guidance of Patrick Heeley. “She’s so easy,” Tessa said.
“We bought her at the Congress yearling sale, and her hip number was 80, so that was her barn name. She’s very consistent and solid, and she just never changes. She has a lot of expression too. She’s really so easy and just a packer. We plan to do the Three Year Old Non-Pro and Limited Open this year.”

Another Non-Pro, Dakota Andrie, showed her horse, Never Have I Ever, to win the $1,500 Added NSBA Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure in another competitive class of 13 entries. Known as Madonna, the mare has seen success with both Dakota and trainer Jay Starnes.
“She’s always correct, and we’re always prepared,” Dakota said. “She’s very flowy and soft. I got to show her last year at the Congress, then in Venice and North Carolina. We will keep showing in the Non-Pro Three Year Old and Youth Western Pleasure classes this year.”

Aaron Moses earned his second win of the day in the $2,000 Added NSBA $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Maturity on a full sibling to his other champion, aboard Yall Hash Tag This, showing for Brent and Kate Bamford. The team earned $1,147.50 for the win.
Also by Machine Made and out of KM Hot Number, the four year old gelding is known as Bentley. “He’s just so great minded,” Aaron said. “He comes out and tries every day, and he just keeps getting better the more we show him. Every time we think he is the best he can be, he gets better the next time we show. I think he’s a pleasant horse to watch. He’s very soft, balanced and steady.
“He came to us last year, and we spent last year just getting him broke. We waited for him to get stronger, and he was a great choice for this class. We will show him in the Novice Horse and $10,000 class wherever they are offered for the rest of this year.”
