The National Snaffle Bit Association continued its World Show Week on Tuesday, August 14, with a number of world and futurity champions in three arenas of competition at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.. The Way To Go caught up with several of the world champions.

Winning Western Ways

Gil Galyean and The Dark Impulse became the first world champions of the day on Tuesday, winning the Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Western Pleasure for owner Joanie Zelnio.

The black mare by RL Best Of Sudden had developed quite a show record this year, winning the Madness Three Year Old and Older Novice Horse and the Hylton Maiden class earlier in the year. “She’s just a beautiful mare,” Gil said of the mare, who is known as Joy.
.

Gil's neice, Kristen Galyean, continued her winning ways with VS The First Lady, winning both the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Non-Pro and Intermediate Non-Pro Western Pleasure futurity titles. It was a welcome birthday present for Kristen, who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday.

In the Color Green Western Pleasure, Tate Oakley showed Hes Blazin Famous to the world champion title for owner Marjorie Allen.

“I bought him last November from Scott Weis,” Tate said. “He had only been shown one time. I bought him sort of as a project horse. He’s just four years old, and this is the sixth time to show him. He is double registered APHA and AQHA. He’s very easy going and has a smooth even feel when you ride him.”

Kari Craft and Gone Viral had been tied to win several classes so far at the 2018 NSBA World Championship Show and lost the tiebreaker, but they were named the outright world champions in the Maturity Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

“He was so good,” Kari said of her four year old stallion known as Monkey. “He had three classes yesterday, and he’s got a busy schedule with Jason (English) this week. I think he’s going even better than he did last year. Ever since he came back from the breeding farm he’s been great. I’m thrilled with him.”

Deanna Green showed UF Rockin The House to win the Maturity intermediate Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

“He’s kind of quirky, but he is a lot of fun to show,” Deanna said of Sven. “He’s five years old. I just started riding him in June. Katie (Green) shows him in the Open Maturity classes.”
.

The Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Limited Open Western Pleasure saw Kaitlin LeBlanc and Lazy Way Around take the futurity title for owner Barbara Williams. “She just comes out every day and does her job,” she said of the mare known as Ellie Fitzgerald.

“You rider her and just put her away. This is the third time I’ve shown her. She won the Tom Powers and the Show For Dough and now here!”
.

Rusty Green teamed up with APHA stallion John Simon to win the Color Senior Western Pleasure for Charla Bradshaw.

“I’m getting pretty familiar with him,” laughed Rusty. “I showed him in the Senior Western Pleasure twice at the Paint World and won world champion titles on him, and now we’ve won one here.”

Erin Weis noted that the stallion is now 12 years old. “He loves to show, but he gets a lot of time off. It’s been really fun to see his babies starting to come on too. The oldest foal crop is four and five year olds, so we’re starting to see them in the show pen,” she said.

In the Maturity Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure, Samantha Ihde and Moonlit Hotrodder took the world championship. Known as Rodney, the gelding by A Moonlit Invitation is 12 years old.

“I’ve had him for eight years,” Samantha said.

“We won this class here last year, so it’s awesome to win again. We come here from California, and the NSBA World Show is our favorite show of the year!”

Lope With Grace became a repeat world champion, winning the Breeders Championship Futurity Open Three Year Old Western Pleasure, with Aaron Moses showing for BS Quarter Horses.

“This was really a tough class,” Aaron noted of the open division. “Some of the best horses in the country were in this group of ten horses showing. Ellie was great. She’s had several classes, and she’s getting tired, but she has been really great to show.”
.

Ashley Lakins earned her very first BCF title at the NSBA World Show, showing Bettin The Goods for Mr. and Mrs. William Wilkes to win the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure.

“Kenny (Lakins) actually started her, but he had another horse to show, so I started showing him at the Powers,” Ashley said.

“We won the Intermediate there and placed high in the Open class, and Lisa (Wilkes) has done really well with him too. He’s a little quirky. He’s better on board than on the ground, but he’s fun to show. He’s by Keeping It Good and out of a Jacks Are Lucky Too mare.”
.

Cody Caliendo made his debut at the NSBA World Championship Show count by winning his first world championship aboard Zensational. The duo won the Breeders Championship Futurity Color Two Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure in the last class of the day.

“I’ve only had her three weeks,” Cody said of the mare known as Scarlett, who is by Zippos Sensation.

“When I first rode her, we just meshed so well. I can be in a bad mood and spend ten minutes on her and just completely change. I just really enjoy riding her. I was pretty confident going the first direction, and when we reversed she was going really well so I thought we might do OK. She was so good.”

Vincent Scileppi Jr. showed A Cool Beat to win the world title in the Novice Youth Western Pleasure. “I’ve been showing him since the beginning of this year,” Vincent said.

“Right after we came home from the Novice Championship Show, he got really sick and was in the hospital for about a week. We didn’t know if he’d make it, and we sat out for a while. We’ve only had about four weeks of practice together and then we came here. He’s fully recovered now.”
.

In the Youth Western Pleasure 13 & Under, Brody Galyean and Cool Poco Dot earned the world championship title. “Her barn name is Molly, and she’s eight years old. This is my first year showing her,” Brody said.

“We just won the Western Pleasure at the AQHA Youth World in Oklahoma City last week. It’s really good that we just live in Purcell, so it hasn’t been too bad.”

Hunter Highlights

Only Blue Couture continued his winning ways for Beth Case and owner Debbie Hodde, winning the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle as well as the June Warren Memorial Trophy. The duo also won the Three Year Old Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle later in the day.

“I just love everything about him,” Beth said of the gelding called Prescott. “He has a great canter and is also a great trotter. He’s very honest. He likes his job and he’s always happy.”

This year marks three times that Beth has won the June Warren Memorial Trophy for the Three Year Old Breeders Championship Hunter Under Saddle class. “I remember talking to June when I was first starting to show,” Beth said.

“She was so excited about the future of the NSBA World Show and Breeders Championship Futurity, because she knew that it could become the biggest world show there is with all the breeds, and it looks like we’re seeing that happen.”

Beth found herself in the winner’s circle again in the Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle showing Hesa Dancin Hubba for Chris Lagerblade.

“I started him, and he’s come along really well,” Beth said. “I really like his attitude. He’s very willing and sweet, and even a little on the lazy side. I’ll be showing him in the Open classes and Chris may show him in the Non-Pro.”

Another repeat champion was Sleep Alilbit Longer, this time with Carrie Warren in the irons to win the Breeders Championship Futurity Four To Six Year Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.

In the Breeders Championship Futurity 3-6 Year Old Color Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, Sunni Duke and Shesa Hot Selection were named the futurity winners. “She is such a soldier, she said of her mare called Katy Jo.

“We’ve been doing Equitation and Horsemanship and she still comes back to do the futurity classes. I think she likes it because she gets to stretch her neck out and go. Jason and Jamie have been great about letting me focus on the All Around classes with her but still show her in the futurities.”

Brian Isbell piloted Al Bet Ur Two Faced to win the Color Junior Hunter Under Saddle world championship title for Megan East Hogan.

“Mike Hachtel trains him and I just get to show him quite a bit,” Brian said of four year old Allocate Your Assets gelding. “We won the Green class here at the NSBA World Show last year. I show him at the Paint World too. Since I used to own his daddy, Allocate Your Assets, I see so much of his daddy in him – he canters and trots just like his daddy.”

.

It was Isabella D’onofrio and N A Heartbeat earning the world title in the NSBA Youth Hunter Under Saddle 13 & Under. “He is eleven,” Isabella.

“We got him at Congress last year, and this is our first world title. We came from the Youth World so it’s been a long week. It’s pretty exciting to win a world title with him.”
.

In the Novice Youth Hunt Seat Equitation, Victoria Leen and Im Seein Double earned the world championship. “This is my first NSBA world title,” Victoria said. “It was very unexpected. We’ve had him almost two years. He’s just a sweetheart and he tries so hard.

“We did the over fences classes earlier in the show. This was our final class, and it’s our final year of youth. We added the equitation this year. We hope to add Novice Horsemanship next year as an Amateur.”
.

Harley Huff and GW Jack Bar won the world champion title in the NSBA Youth 14-18 Hunt Seat Equitation. “We call him George. This is my fifth year with him, so we know each other pretty well,” Harley said.

“We won the AQHA Youth World Show in Horsemanship in 2015, but this is my first NSBA World Show. We’ve been hoping for an Equitation championship, because it’s my favorite class. We finally did it today. I really liked the hand gallop and the lead change in our pattern.”

In the NSBA Youth 13 & Under Hunt Seat Equitation, Evelyn Doyle showed HF Krymsun Elegance to a world championship title. “This is Christy. I’ve had her since last summer,” Evelyn said.

“The hardest part of our pattern was probably our straight line because those have always been hard for me so getting it done was great. We showed in Novice Youth Trail, 13 & Under Trail, 13 & Under Showmanship and 13 & Under Horsemanship. This was our last class.”

In the Open and Breeders Championship Futurity Hunter Longe Line, Alyse Roberts showed The Peace Movement for owner Donna Shirey. “I raised him, and he’s by Peace Out Man. We really like him. We’re thinking about taking him to the Congress. We still have the Non-Pro Hunter Longe Line to show here,” Donna said.

ancy Ditty and The Best Cowgirl made a clean sweep of the Non-Pro Western Longe Line classes by winning the world title in the NSBA Non-Pro Western Longe Line.

“She’s special because she’s out of a mare I used to show that we called Strawberry, so it’s special to show her baby,” Nancy said. “It’s also special because she lives at the house with me and I got her ready and showed her.”.

Tops In Trail, Horsemanship

Jayna Lagace took her horse Huntin Hotty Tottys to the NSBA world championship title in the NSBA 13 & Under Youth Trail. “We just won the Equitation at the AQHA Youth World,” Jayna said.

“He’s pretty tired. My favorite part of the pattern was probably the back up. I thought he was going to break in the lope going to the other lope, so I really had to work on that.”

Shayne Gilliam and Chocolatey Special K picked up their second world championship at the 2018 NSBA World Show, winning the NSBA Youth Walk Trot Trail. “We call her KK,” Shayne said of her horse. “I was really surprised when we won.
