The final day of the NSBA World Championship Show saw a full day of Ranch Horse events that included Ranch Trail, Ranch Riding and Ranch Rail Stakes classes, with entries doubled over 2018, .

Johnsons Take 1 and 2 in Junior Ranch Trail

Robert Johnson showed A Busy Affair to the first world championship of the day aboard A Busy Affair for owners Steve and Kathy Headley, and his wife Karen was right behind in second with her horse, Peptos Power.

“We love it that the Ranch Horse classes have become part of the NSBA World Show and Dual-Approved at the breed shows,” Robert said.

“We’ve come a long way with this division in a short period of time.  At first, I’m not sure we all knew what we wanted the class to look like, but now that we do, it’s picked up like crazy. These classes came along at a time when I had to stop roping, and I love it. It’s something my wife Karen and I can do together, and I’m able to prepare and show our clients’ horses. The Headleys are wonderful people and wonderful clients and I’m happy that they got the win today.”

Ken Banks Earns Two World Titles

Ken Banks and his home-bred and AQHA Heritage Bred horse, See The Magic In Me, earned two world championships in Non-Pro Ranch Trail and Non-Pro Ranch Riding. “The numbers were so much greater at this year’s NSBA World Show in the Ranch Riding this year. We had 25 to 30 horses in each class, and it’s great,” he said.

“I owned both this horse’s daddy and momma, and he’s a horse we use every day on our ranch. The hardest part of today’s Trail pattern was going over the logs. I was worried that he wouldn’t go by the hay bales, but he went right by them. We had a great day today!”

Matt Gouthro And Chex R Cashin Win Senior Ranch Trail

For Matt Gouthro, the whole Trail pattern revolved around one thing – the pole obstacle. “I didn’t know if I was going to get over the lope pole or not, and the whole go depended on that,” he said of the 12 year old gelding my Nu Chex To Cash. “He was great. He was responsive and alert and did everything I asked him to do.

Matt talked about the growth of Ranch Horse classes. “It’s gotten to be so popular,” he said. “I think a lot of it is that it’s such a natural class. People feel that they can buy a horse and have a shot at winning. At some of the shows I’ve been to, like in Virginia, the Ranch Horse classes are the largest classes of the show.”

Steve Meadows and HP Docs Flamin Hot Earn Junior Ranch Riding Win

When owner James Morrison brought his horse by Too Sleepy To Zip and out of a daughter of Blazing Hot to Steve Meadows, he didn’t know what to expect. The somewhat unlikely trio turned in their first world championship ride in Junior Ranch Riding.

“This horse was a sporadic internet purchase, and when Jim brought him to me, I didn’t know anything about the horse or anything about him. He’s turned into a true Ranch Riding horse though,” Steve said. “I bought him sight unseen off the internet,” added Jim. “This is his first big show. He’s only been to a couple of small shows before this.”

“It means a lot to have the Ranch classes here at the NSBA World Show,” Steve added. “I think it makes the show more rounded and helps sow the versatility of the horse. We really appreciate being a part of it. I think these classes will continue to grow, because there is such great interest in it.”
.

Lyon Family Earns Dual Championships

Bud Lyon, who was busy going from class to class throughout the day, won the Senior Ranch Riding on Lectric Chic Olena, and came back in the very next class to win the Junior Ranch Rail Stakes, showing Crowd Pleaser for Kerry Papendick. Bud’s wife Kim was also named a world champion aboard Lectric Chic Olena in the Non-Pro Ranch Rail Stakes.

"This is our first time to show here at the NSBA World Show," Bud said. "We'll definitely be back next year."

Leslie Lange and The Immortal Earn Another World Title

Leslie Lange and The Immortal have been competing in NSBA’s Ranch Horse classes since they were first offered at the World Show and have earned a number of world championship in the past. They added to their list of accomplishments by winning the Senior Ranch Rail Stakes in the final class of the show..

NSBA Awards High Point Ranch Horses

In addition to crowning world champions, NSBA awarded a trophy saddle to the high point Open and Non-Pro Ranch Horses. The awards were calculated on results from both the AQHA Ranch Horse Trail and Ranch Riding classes from Saturday and the world championship classes on Sunday.

Chics In Tinseltown, shown by Alex Ross for Anita Weiscamp, won the High Point Open Ranch Horse award, .

Bucky Hurley, shown by Jenny Honey for Jenny and Jeff Honey, won the Non-Pro Ranch Horse saddle.
