The final day of The Madness 2024 AQHA and NSBA circuit saw Non-Pros take center stage in the NSBA futurities.
Kylee and Mouse Win Non-Pro Maturity
Kylee Wiseman and RR Magical Moonlight don’t team up too many times a year to compete, but when they do, it’s usually magical, and Sunday’s Non-Pro Western Pleasure Maturity was no exception. The duo were the unanimous choice of judges Elizabeth Baker, TW Grose and Sara Simons.
“We try and save Mouse for shows that are local to use and big shows like the Congress and the AQHA World Show,” Kylee said. “He’s 12 years old now, and we do everything we can to keep him happy and healthy. He loves to show though. He screams when the trailer leaves without him.
“He’s my heart horse. Every time I get to swing a leg over him, it just makes me happy. I don’t know where I would be without this horse. He doesn’t owe us anything and he is spoiled rotten.”
When asked about Sunday’s go, Kylee said “He was really tired because he showed in the Dad’s Walk Trot class yesterday, but he felt really good. He always shows with his ears forward and he loves his job.”
Becky and Penny Win Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure Futurity
Becky showed I Lope You Love Me to win the Non-Pro division of the Three Year Old Western Pleasure Futurity, earning a $720 paycheck.
The three year old mare, known as Penny, is special to Becky for a couple of reasons. “We raised her,” she said. “She is by The Lopin Machine and out of our show mare, Too Cute To Snooze. It’s been really fun to bring her along.
“We won the Two Year Old Non-Pro NSBA world title and the Breeders Championship Futurity title last year at the NSBA World Show and where were reserve champions in the Quarter Horse Congress Two Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure Futurity. I’ve only shown her once since the Congress in Venice and we won the Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure Futurity at Fun In The Sun.”
The Venice win took Becky over the milestone into the NSBA’s Quarter Million Dollar Club, marking another special experience for Becky with Penny.
“She was really good today,” Becky said. “She listened well. She really wants to be a show horse, and just wants to do her job.”
Bill Cox and George Earn Limited Non-Pro Win
The Galyean barn kept both Three Year Old Non-Pro awards in the barn between Becky’s Non-Pro win and the win in the Limited division of the class for Bill Cox and No Doubt I M Sleepn.
“We call him George,” Bill said of the gelding by No Doubt Im Lazy and out of his show mare Sleep Machine. “It kind of takes it to a new level when you raise your own, because you go out against stiff competition no matter what in these classes. Dillon Vaughn showed him to win at the AQHA World Show last year in Level 2, and I’ve only got to show him once in Venice before now, but we were first among all the judges there.
“He’s such a fluid mover, he’s just a joy to ride. He’s always relaxed and calm, and he makes me calm. He’s probably the closest one to Sleep Machine that we’ve raised. She could always position herself and just create her own space, and he’s starting to do that too. We haven’t had a lot of time together, but hopefully now that we’re going into summer, we’ll be able to spend more time together.”
