Futurity, Sweepstakes and Amateur Classes Highlight Friday at the APHA World Show

Exhibitors saw a busy day of futurity, sweepstakes and Amateur classes on Friday in Fort Worth at the APHA Open and Amateur World Championship Show.

VS Kolor Koded Wins Blue

Keith Miller started out the day with a winning catch ride aboard VS Kolor Koded, showing for Ken, Karen and Amalie Kennedy. They showed in the Gold Two Year Old Hunter Under Saddle Breeders Futurity, earning $2,872.

“Troy Lehn and Brad Ost trained this mare, and Lisa Ligon has been showing her, but she had a previous commitment for this class and Troy and Brad asked me to catch ride her. I quickly accepted,” Keith said.

“She’s just adorable, she’s great legged and she just lets you show her. She always has such great expression – she’s good minded and very talented. I’ve loved her since I saw her at the NSBA World Show.”

“She’s my once in a lifetime horse,” Karen Kennedy said of her mare, known as Mel. “I just love her.”

VS Kolor Koded is by VS Code Red and out of Shesa Real Pleasure.

Trotting to Victory In Amateur Walk Trot Western Pleasure

Jill Stenroos showed My Daddys The Best to win the Amateur Walk Trot Western Pleasure, aboard a three year old mare in a bosal in a large class of 20 entries.

“My daughter raised her, and she’s just the sweetest, kindest animal,” Jill said. “She has the best trot of any horse I’ve ever rode. She just wants to be good.”

Jill showed horses in her teens and 20’s, then took time off to raise her family – as well as horses. “I started showing again about five years ago,” she said.

“It’s been on the girls’ bucket list to have me show, and so (Walk Trot) is my thing. Showing a three year old is new, though – I’ve always shown older more broke horses in the past.”

By The Sugar Daddy and out of KM Smooth N Slow, My Daddys The Best was bred by Gavin Pope.

All Good for Beth Case and Kent Ray Taylor

The three year old gelding All Good continued his winning ways, this time for trainer Beth Case, who won both the Gold Three Year Old Breeders Hunter Under Saddle Futurity and the Three Year Old Hunter Under Saddle Challenge. Beth and ‘Jamison’ won $2,878 for the Challenge and an additional $1,971 for the Gold Futurity win.

Last year’s Congress Masters Hunter Under Saddle champion, All Good, is by All Time Fancy and out of Sly Sister (TB)..

Al Bet Ur Two Faced Wins Non-Pro 4 & Older Sweepstakes

Megan East Hogan and her mount, Al Bet Ur Two Faced, topped their Friday off with a win in the Non-Pro Four Year Old and Older Hunter Under Saddle Sweepstakes. They earned $800 for the win.

Both Megan and her trainer, Brian Isbell Garcia, feel something very familiar with the gelding, whose barn name is Henry.

“We raised him,” Megan said. “I showed his mother as a youth, and Brian showed his sire, Allocate Your Assets. He’s really grown into himself over the past year or so.

“He’s just so steady. He loves his job and he’s so much fun to show. He’s so consistent, and he just hangs his neck out there and shows.”

“Megan did a fabulous job showing him,” Brian added. “He’s such a phenomenal mover and has such a big stride, it’s kind of hard to miss him. He has so much similarity to his sire, it’s uncanny.”

The APHA Open and Amateur World Championship Show continues through September 29. To view complete show results or follow the live feed, please visit apha.com/oawcs/.
