The NSBA World Championship Show continued to roll on with Thursday’s schedule including the start of Ranch Riding classes in addition to Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, Western Riding, Horsemanship and Trail classes that were presented in four arenas throughout the day.

In the Ford Truck Arena, it was a Nebraska Cornhusker finish when Bill Cosentino and Nuthinbutlazy took the world championship title and Michael Hershberger and The Lopin Illusion took the reserve title in the Maturity $10,000 Limited Horse Non-Pro Western Pleasure.

“I can’t be mad at him because he’s a fellow Cornhusker,” quipped Michael Hershberger after finishing second. It was a repeat win for Bill and Nuthinbutlazy, who have won multiple world championship titles this week.

Another repeat champion was Best To Be Lopin, this time piloted by Aaron Moses for his wife Courtney. The trio won the world championship in the Color Three Year Old Open Western Pleasure. Cynthia Kaufman showed No Doubting Me to the geldings’ third NSBA world championship title when they won the Maturity Limited Non-Pro Western Pleasure. Rusty Green also earned a repeat world title with KM You Make it Easy for owner John McNichol in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Open Western Pleasure.

There was a lot of sugar for Bill Hatten and Im Sugar N Spice in the Breeders Championship Futurity Three Year Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure, when the duo won the futurity title for owner Sara Krueger.

“We bought her from Kenny and Ashley Lakins in December,” Bill said. “She’s by Machine Made and out of a Sweet Talkin Chip bred mare. She’s been phenomenal. She was just flawless today. We had to lope a long time, and she was hooked. It was a great go.

“Since her owner, Sara, is going to vet school, she couldn’t keep her, and she’s been sold to Kylee Wiseman and will be going into Ty and Karen Hornick’s program.

In the Color Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Open Western Pleasure, Mike Hachtel showed Sweet Shade Of Red to the futurity win for owner Katie DeMeyer-Callaway.

The APHA mare is by VS Code Red. “I really like her,” Mike said. “She’s very smart and very willing, and it’s really extraordinary that she’s been ready to show as a two year old. She’s an overachiever. She had already won the Western Pleasure at the APHA World Show. She never disappoints.”

In the Limited division of the Color Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Open Western Pleasure, Laura Spell showed Made For Trouble to the win for WJR Capital.

Renee Norleen showed WellThereYouGo to win the world championship in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure. The gelding, called Mac, is by Certainly A Vision and out of Miss Good N Ready.

“Mac has been a fantastic horse for me to learn on,” Renee said. “I just started showing. RJ King works with me, and he and Mac just clicked. He was really good for me today. On the first direction of our go, I sort of lost my footing, but I gathered myself and used the feel of him and got to showing him. This is our first big title, and I just can’t believe we won. This has been a really fun week.

Hunting World Titles

Brian Isbell Garcia piloted Party All The Time to win the futurity title in the Breeders Championship Futurity 4-6 Year Old Open Hunter Under Under Saddle for owner Paris Hughes.

Brian has been teaming up with the five year old gelding by All Time Fancy for a number of years. “I love showing him,” Brian said. “He’s 17.2 but he looks like a Western horse when he canters. His canter is like a rocking chair. I also just love his demeanor. He is always happy and loves what he does.

“We just showed him at the APHA World Show and did really well there, we won the Maturity and were always in the top three or four. He’s a great horse.”

Make N Me Happy made Angela Fox really happy by carrying her to the futurity win in the Breeders Championship Futurity Two Year Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle. The sorrel gelding known as ‘Bean’ is by Makin Me Willy Wild.

“He is one of just two Jeffrey babies who is showing here. I love red horses, and when I first saw a video of him, I thought he would make a really nice horse. Debbi Trubee really didn’t want to sell him, but I was persistent and ended up buying him. Kenny and Ashley Lakins put the first ride on him. I love his canter, because he has a really nice front leg and a great hock. He’s been really easy for me. In fact, he’s pretty lazy and very laid back and chill.

Angela had a bit of a panic on Friday morning when she couldn’t find Bean’s rear boots. “We looked everywhere for them, and I thought I put them in our grooming bag but they weren’t there,” she said. “I drove everyone at the stalls crazy looking for them. I had taken them off of Beth (Case) and apparently put them in a hunt cap case, but we eventually found them.”

Danielle Long is usually found on the other side of the camera shooting photos for Go Horse Show, but she took time to step into the saddle to win the Three Year Old Limited Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle aboard Hubbout Another, who is owned by her parents, Chad and Doreen Moore.

“Boozer is by Hubba Hubba Huntin, and we have him with High Point Performance Horses,” Danielle said. “We’ve had him since he was baby, for three years now. We’ve been taking our time bringing him along. He had some big growth spurts so we were just patient with him.

“This is literally my first time showing a Hunter Under Saddle horse, and my first NSBA World Championship Show that I’ve ever shown at, but he is so easy to show. I’m really thankful for the High Point team who kept him loose and ready to show, so I just had to focus on getting good placements and try to have fun. That was the toughest group of people I’ve ever shown against. He was above and beyond my wildest expectations.”

Keith Miller showed Im Willy Good Today to win the Maturity Open Hunter Under Saddle, taking the gelding to his fifth world championship of the 2021 NSBA World Championship Show.

Ranch Rail Champions Named

Friday ended the day with Junior and Senior Ranch Rail competition. Both classes proved popular, and each required two splits and a final to determine the winner.

In the Junior Ranch Rail, Huntin A Blue Moon, shown by Jonathan Himes for Lexie McCallar, was named the world champion.

In the Senior Ranch Rail, Bud Lyon showed Crowd Pleaser for owner Karry Papendick. “I think this is the third year we’ve had the Ranch Riding classes as world show classes at the NSBA World Show,” Bud said. “We’re very grateful to NSBA for being so forward thinking in adding these classes and in working with us to develop a schedule that has really allowed these classes to grow.

“What the judges are looking for in the Ranch Rail classes is a horse that they would like to ride all day on the ranch. The ideal horse needs to be a good mover with a lot of self-carriage, expression and be happy and looking through the bridle. Kerry’s horse, Chief, is a blast to show. He is already a Junior Ranch world champion, and Kerry is extremely fond of him.”

The NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity continues through Sunday, August 22. To view complete show results or follow the live video feed, please visit www.nsba.com or use the Horse Show Tracker app.
