Western Show Team Championship

The National Snaffle Bit Association will host its first Western Show Team Championship, on August 18 & 19, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the NSBA World Championship Show. The competition offers Western show team classes for both High School (Senior) and Middle School (Junior) levels including horsemanship and ranch riding. Exhibitors will compete for awards and prizes with money paid to the overall High Point class winners.

The Western Show Team Championship tests riders in an unusual format as exhibitors show horses they have not previously ridden. Each team will be responsible for providing horses for the event and horses are drawn prior to the competition. Riders are only allowed to walk prior to going into the show arena. Although all teams provide horses, team members are not allowed to compete on any horse they own/lease and compete on in non-show team competitions.

Seven Western Horsemanship and two Ranch Riding classes will be held in a two-go-round format on Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th. The Senior Division will offer four Horsemanship classes and a Ranch Riding class each to compete in a two-go-round format. The Junior Division will offer three Horsemanship classes and a Ranch Riding class each to compete in a two-go-round format. The Overall High Point Individual class winners are based on a rider’s composite score for the two days. Team points will be calculated using the Overall High Point results from each Individual class.

Teams are formed with a coach and at least two team members. Youth may or may not already be showing on a team but must be able to prove their level if they are not part of an organized show team such as the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA), Youth Equestrian Development Association (YEDA) or a like organization.
